Antonette Anuwe, M.A., L.P.A.

Antonette Anuwe

Antonette Anuwe, M.A., L.P.A. offers a diverse array of psychological assessment and professional counseling services. Joining Gearing Up in 2015, she brings excellent experience from psychiatric settings, educational environments, and psychologist offices specializing in forensic services and psychological assessments for children, adolescents, and adults. Antonette has completed extensive training in the administration and scoring of psychological testing, intellectual and educational testing, and professional report writing. In 2016, she completed an advanced training program in projective personality testing and is now working under the supervision of Gearing Up Clinical Director, Dr. Milton Gearing.

Antonette has a passion to help children and teens. In previous positions, she worked with children struggling with both developmental and social challenges. In that capacity, she conducted play therapy and group activities and games geared toward enhancing social skills. In addition, Antonette provided education to their parents to help them support their child’s continued social and emotional development.

Educated at two of the most prominent universities in Texas, Baylor University and Texas A&M University, Antonette has developed an intense and unwavering interest in professional excellence. At Baylor, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Child and Family Studies. She graduated with her Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Texas A&M at Corpus Christi.

Melissa Austen, M.S.S.A., L.C.S.W.

Melissa Austen

Melissa Austen joins Gearing Up with ten years of exceptional work with children, adolescents, and their families. A talented, energetic professional, she has worked in outpatient treatment centers and in school based counseling departments to serve children who are struggling with emotional and behavioral issues. Due to her extensive background working with schools and the needs of children and their families, she brings a unique perspective to the therapy room. She is gifted in helping struggling children and teens improve their performance at school while also improving their relationships with family and peers.

A highly conscientious and dedicated professional, Melissa expends tremendous energy getting to know all aspects of a client’s world. Regarding each child and teen as unique and special, she seeks to understand the key issues facing that child at this moment in time. Challenges at school, at home, and with peers are all explored and examined. Utilizing a combination of psychological testing, diagnostic interviews, and parent conferences, she delivers invaluable counseling and advice to parents that helps her clients achieve improved emotional regulation, self-esteem, and behavioral control.

In addition to her work with children and teens, Melissa also treats adults with mood disorders including depression, anxiety, and trauma. She has completed twenty-two hours of advanced training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy and also utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to assist her clients in improving their lives. She has had advanced training in trauma and is a member of The International Association of Trauma Professionals. A highly intuitive and compassionate therapist, Melissa seeks to validate the efforts her client is making while also helping them to make important changes in their lives.

Melissa graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of arts in Psychology and Sociology from Thiel College. She attended the internationally renowned Case Western Reserve University for her Master of Social Work degree (M.S.S.A.). Her graduate school concentration was in Children, Youth and Families. In addition, she earned a school counseling endorsement in Elementary and Secondary School Counseling from Slippery Rock University. This postgraduate endorsement was awarded after Melissa completed additional graduate classes concentrating in school counseling.

Susan Danna, M.S.W., L.C.S.W.

Susan Danna

Susan Danna joins Gearing Up as a veteran of mental health care with over 14 years of experience with clients in a variety of treatment settings. She brings a vast knowledge of clinical issues and treatment methods to the therapy room, and she works diligently on behalf of her clients to achieve the best outcomes in treatment.

Susan is a very thoughtful and perceptive therapist. She invests time and energy into understanding each one of her clients and designing custom tailored strategies for their improvement. She is skilled in treating individuals of all ages including adults, teens, and children. Susan brings a particular warmth to her work, and she creates a safe and compassionate atmosphere for her clients.

Susan is particularly sensitive to issues of trauma and has completed training in the treatment of complex trauma and its long-term effects for children, teens, and adults. In addition, she has completed advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), eating disorders, and suicide and crisis intervention. She has also completed advanced training in Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapies.

Susan graduated from the outstanding Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She earned her Master of Social Work from the prestigious program at Louisiana State University.

Sheila Ewell, M.A., M.S., L.P.C.

Sheila Ewell loves the field of counseling. During her training, she went above and beyond what is required by the State of Texas and attained two separate Master’s degrees specializing in Forensic Psychology and Counseling. Since graduating, she has honed her talents in diverse settings including specialized mental health clinics, government run child advocacy centers, large hospital settings, and private practice.

Sheila has a gift for understanding her clients and empathizing with their thoughts, needs, and actions. She begins by focusing diligently on understanding each client’s unique circumstances. Her therapy room is a validating and gracious environment that promotes her clients’ comfort and ease. Sheila works with her clients to build an in depth narrative of their clinical history, understand their current challenges and strengths, and write a new road map for long lasting positive growth.

Sheila has a special interest in helping children who are struggling with trauma, loss, and abuse. She worked for two years at the Children’s Advocacy Center for Denton County where she taught children and their families how to overcome severe abuse and trauma that had dominated their lives. She received specialized training in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, a highly effective therapy approach that helps children cope with the emotional dysregulation and suffering caused by early life abuse. With experience in forensic psychology, Sheila was an effective advocate for children in the legal system and routinely worked with law enforcement, the District Attorney’s office, and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.

Sheila is also passionate about helping teens and adults who are suffering from complex trauma or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. After a traumatic event, many people are unable to regulate their thoughts or emotions which can lead to anxiety and depression. Years or even decades after a trauma, many people continue to suffer and struggle daily. Sheila approaches trauma as a challenge that can be defeated. She equips her clients with the necessary coping skills to break the cycle of traumatic thinking, address their shifting moods and thoughts, and help them create a new life worth living.

Sheila is dedicated to improving the lives of her clients by studying and implementing the most effective psychotherapy tools available. She utilizes cutting edge approaches including Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Prolonged Exposure Therapy for PTSD, and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Sheila graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She attended Marymount University where she earned a Master of Arts in Forensic Psychology. Sheila went on to earn a second Master of Science in Counseling from the distinguished program at Southern Methodist University. She holds the prestigious designation of Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Texas.

Nancy Fite, M.S.W., L.C.S.W.

Nancy Fite joins Gearing Up with a wealth of experience in mental health services. She cherishes her work in serving others and brings a perceptive and warm perspective to the counseling room. Her kindness and consideration combined with her dedication to evidence based research and practice make her a top-notch clinician.

Previously, Nancy supervised clinical and administrative staff in a thirty-bed facility as the Adolescent Program Director of Nexus Recovery Center. She was responsible for overseeing clinical schedules, resident care, and responding to crises in the facility. She has also worked in the foster care system and in the juvenile justice system. She thrives in an environment that is challenging, complex, and service oriented. All of these positions have contributed to her keen understanding of mental health issues and fortified her resolve to make a positive difference in the lives of her clients.

In addition to working as an individual therapist, Nancy works intensively with couples in relationship and marital therapy. Many couples come to Gearing Up deeply hurt by the chronic pattern of emotional disengagement and unresolved conflict. Nancy understands how regular discord can be painful and traumatic in the life of a relationship. She is skilled in reducing the symptoms of distress and suffering while moving the partners into a more secure and stable relationship pattern.

Sarah Glenney, M.S., L.C.S.W.

Sarah Glenney

A highly perceptive and poised clinician, Sarah Glenney brings experience from a highly accomplished career to the counseling room. Sarah has been a therapist in hospitals, community clinics, and behavior treatment programs across Texas. She has honed her skills as an assessment clinician, crisis management expert, and in training other social workers and clinicians in psychotherapy and clinical assessment.

Her professional interests include teaching emotional regulation skills to adults and teens. She has completed advanced studies in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Sarah is dedicated to augmenting her extensive knowledge base with the latest tools and techniques in the field. She applies her theoretical knowledge carefully and thoughtfully to the challenges facing each one of her clients.

Sarah has a particular gift of warmth and humor with her clients that puts them at ease while helping her clients integrate the many strategies and tools for more effective self-management. She believes earnestly in the power of psychotherapy to heal and to restore a sense of hope and happiness. Working with clients who want to change can often involve discussing uncomfortable topics. However, Sarah’s validating and diplomatic communication skills help her clients to problem solve and discover the most effective strategies that truly build a “life worth living.”

June Holcomb, M.A., L.P.C.

June Goodman

June Holcomb is a talented and highly skilled counselor who has devoted her life to mastering the science and art of professional counseling. She brings vast experience in mood disorders, addictions, crisis intervention, trauma, personality disorders, individual counseling and assessments, and marital and couples counseling. She is an enthusiastic and welcoming counselor who sincerely meets her clients where they are and moves them forward to success. She works hard to understand her client’s goals and ambitions while remaining focused on the practical steps that they must take to achieve their dreams.

Prior to joining Gearing Up, June was an intensive outpatient substance abuse counselor for the Dallas County Community Supervision and Corrections Department. Following her work in substance abuse at the CSCD, she became the clinical team leader for Transicare where she supervised a team of case managers. Her team was charged with providing assessments and counseling for inmates in the Dallas County Crisis Services Project. June has been credited with training, mentoring, and overseeing a clinical team that has greatly reduced recidivism in the corrections system and has improved the mental health of their clients.

June graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Shortly after, she earned her Master of Arts in Professional Counseling at Amberton University. She has earned the prestigious designation of Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Texas.

Melissa is the Clinical Supervisor of Gearing Up's Adolescent Services.

Highly accomplished counselor Melissa Woods joins Gearing Up with specialties in psychological testing and adolescent and adult therapies.

Fluent in Spanish and equipped with over ten years of experience, Melissa possesses a keen understanding of a variety of psychological disorders, treatments and therapies. As a forensic evaluator, she has evaluated hundreds of adolescents, adults and their families for court.

As an L.P.C. Supervisor, she has overseen countless other evaluations vital for the court. In addition, Melissa has spearheaded Family Training Programs, Anger Management Programs for individuals and families, and has conducted therapy and assessments in Spanish for many years.
