As parents, it’s our responsibility to ensure that our daughters become confident, effective, and successful young women.
Today, depression strikes a full decade earlier than it did fifty years ago and occurs twice as often in girls. For fifty percent of girls, it resurfaces later in life as a serious clinical depression or anxiety condition.
At Gearing Up, we offer the Growing Girls Strong program to foster and cultivate unprecedented self-confidence and emotional resilience in our young girls. This program is the long-time passion project of Gearing Up founder and nationally recognized psychologist, Dr. Sylvia Gearing. Built on a foundation of skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Dr. Gearing has crafted a unique and highly effective program for teaching adolescent girls and their parents the coping skills that lead to emotional and behavioral strength and resilience. She personally coaches your daughter in the skills of emotional regulation, calming and focusing in times of adversity, and personal empowerment. Dr. Gearing believes that by teaching both daughters and parents (father and mother mentors), the therapeutic gains are more pervasive, more firmly established, and lead to longer lasting results.

The Basics of Dialectics
The fundamental lesson of Dialectical Behavior Therapy: there is always more than one-way to see a given situation and multiple ways to solve the same problem. Learn how to honor the truth on both sides of conflict, how to empathize during conflict, and how to navigate through conflict effectively.
Learn how to calm the mind, without judgment or criticism, to gain further emotional self-control.
How to avoid and resist common mental pitfalls like self-loathing, self-criticism, blame, and much more that lead to depression and anxiety.
Learn how to prevent a crisis from sabotaging your current mood, how to accept things that cannot be changed and move past them, and how to remain accurate in your perception of events around you even while under fire.
Understand how emotions work in our minds, how to wield our emotions effectively, and how to create and sustain positive emotions for emotional mastery.
