GearingUp is proud to announce that Dr. Sylvia Gearing and select members of the GearingUp clinical leadership are enrolled with Bessel Van Der Kolk’s Trauma Research Foundation for a 34 week intensive certification training in trauma.
Dr. Van Der Kolk is a world-famous trauma researcher, formally affiliated with Harvard and Boston University, and author of “The Body Keeps The Score.” He was one of the first psychiatrists to truly articulate how severely people can be impacted by trauma, and his work changed the entire therapeutic approach to treating trauma conditions. Dr. Van Der Kolk will personally lead the certification program which will cover multiple effective approaches based on the latest research on EMDR, body-based techniques, neurofeedback, SMART treatment, expressive and art therapies, and more. The training will also shed light on how trauma is informed by each person’s unique background including culture, race, spirituality, family, social context, and more. Weekly mentorship meetings include coaching and instruction from other world famous trauma experts including Dr. Janina Fisher, Dr. Stephen Porges, Dr. Elizabeth Warner, Dr. Pat Ogden, Dr. Margaret Blaustein, and more.
While many treatment programs are focused on teaching clinicians a particular treatment modality, this training instead provides a comprehensive overview of multiple treatment approaches that may help clients suffering from trauma. They will cover what conditions trauma clients regularly live under, common presenting problems, developmental stages, cultural context, and resources of the traumatized person.
